Week 3 Operating system

While the Ether Watch (prototype name) may have all of these bangin features, it needs an operating system on which to run these applications. Currently there are a few to choose from, or you know, I could create my own (an endeavor to be sure). It makes much more economic and commercial sense to simply adapt an existing system. This might be the Android operating system, Apple's system, or the Windows platform. Which one is chosen depends on which one is most suited to open ended applications that will continually improve the usefulness and connectivity of the device. Therefore the choice is simple, the Android operating system is best suited to third part applications and access, while Apple and Windows simply cannot be as open with their respective platforms.
Using a Android platform allows the Ether Watch to share a greater degree of connectivity with Droid powered phones, which are increasingly popular. Users will also have access to the droid marketplace, allowing them to download tons of exclusive apps, and get this, design their own. It's no secret that consumers know what they want, and corporate America, often does not.
And of course, the greatest benefit to being partnered with google (creator of the Android operating system) is that cool little green android icon :) But seriously, it's easy to use, open ended, and not as restrictive as certain other platforms, however the real question is, is it worth forming a partnership with google, a question that could only be answered with a reasonable amount of time given to gauge the success of the Ether Watch (which has some awesome features, so how could it flop?) Once you start seeing the amazing apps you're fellow Ether Watch users have created, you'll be sold both on the actual device and the system behind it.

Week 2 Social Media

Social media permeates every aspect of our lives it seems, and we're always looking for ways to connect our ways further with it. Facebook may be the reigning champ for now, but no matter what fades in or out, social media as a whole is here to stay. So why not make it easier to find out what you're friends are doing, all just by looking at you're wrist. Now that's innovation. Less work more play, that's my mantra. Of course the implications of such a device could easily be used for evil, such as goofing off at work, but barring that, imagine having access to an entire virtual world, or worlds strapped to your arm. Remember, social media doesn't atop at Facebook and twitter. Imagine being able to link any kind of online account to this device, Playstation Network, Xbox live, Neopets, any online service available can be linked to this device to stream and receive instant updates. Now your mind is blown, I know.
Obviously the physical aspects of a watch, keep the abilities of such a device to a minimum, you won't be playing fully 3D games, but you will be able to check your online friends on Xbox Live and set up a game of Call of Duty by the time you get home. It's all convenience, whether you're a high powered businessman, always on the move, or a trendsetter yourself... well convenience, and not looking like a hack. And with this watch, both of those goals are covered. the best inventions throughout history, are those that utilize already existing resources, and I plan on mining the as of yet undiscovered potential of social media, the new black gold of the technology sector.
Another aspect of utilizing social media, is that it allows for consumers to have a direct hand in what exactly they want to see as the product evolves, as any successful thing in nature can only survive by evolving, so to shall we.

Week 1- New Idea

Nobody wears watches anymore, if you really want to know the time, you'll most likely spend a good few minutes fumbling in your bag (if you're a female) for your mobile device, or even worse, spend an inordinate amount of time trying to extract it from those incredibly tight skinny jeans you're probably wearing as you read this. So what's the solution? Digital watches are, pardon my french, cheap as hell quite honestly. Don't expect to get many girls wearing one of those, no matter how fancy it may appear. But wait, there are the old fashioned analog watches, those still exist right? Well as a fashion statement, sure, but not many people these days can quickly tell time with one of those. I personally own one of those fancy fossil watches that makes everybody ooh and ahh, but the funny thing is, it doesn't even work properly, go figure.
So you want something that looks stylish and is also functionable, who doesn't? Well nowadays, stylish = internet connectivity, so if you do the math, you get one of the more useful creations to be put forth in a while (certainly more useful than say, the slap chop). That's right, a watch that connects you to the greatest database of human knowledge ever known, or more precisely the internet for short. Imagine looking at your wrist and being able to tell the weather, temperature, traffic, and most importantly, who just poked you on Facebook. Now this won't be replacing your phone, because having a full keyboard strapped to your wrist all day would just be plain stupid, and unsightly. Instead a touchscreen would be incorporated, because, well, as the iPhone has proven, everybody likes to touch stuff.
Now I'm sure I have all of your attention, as you sit back and realize what a game changing device I just presented to you. And you probably thought I was going to think of something stupid, like internet enabled braces. However, don't get too excited yet, the true functionality and power of this device hasn't even come close to being revealed yet, we don't even know what it's called for pete's sake. So I guess that means if you want to know more, you're going to have to stick with me for a few short weeks to learn all you can about what will probably end up being called the iWatch when Apple gets their hands on the idea... but no promises yet.
